There are plenty of restaurants within 15 to 30 minutes away from Open Sky.
At this time we are a PET FREE resort. Although we love animals, our top priority is to preserve an atmosphere of peace and tranquility for all of our guests so that they can immerse themselves into the surrounding nature of Open Sky. Certified service animals are welcome and must be leashed at all times outside your tent.
Yes! We have both. Your comfort is essential to having an extraordinary experience which is why we selected the highest grade, insulated canvas for out tents. We provide a mini-split unit in every camp for air conditioning and heat. In addition, there is an indoor gas fireplace for ambiance and warmth. For the colder months our bathroom tile floors have radiant heating for your enjoyment.z
The main west entrance to Zion is 15 miles from Open Sky, or 25 minutes of driving. Our property is unique in that it remotely borders the far west side of Zion National Park.
We recommend flying into either Las Vegas International Airport or St. George Regional Airport. You can rent a car from either location and drive to Open Sky.
From Las Vegas to Open Sky – Approximately 2 hrs 45 minutes. Please keep in mind the 1 hour zone time difference between Nevada and Utah when planning your travel.
From St George Regional Airport to Open Sky – Approximately 45 minutes.
From Open Sky to Springdale Shuttles / Zion National Park West Entrance – Approximately 25 minutes.
You don’t need 4-wheel drive to get to Open Sky. The drive to Open Sky is paved highway with the exception of 3.5 miles of improved dirt road, Dalton Wash Road. This road takes you off the beaten path while winding up a beautiful canyon and is maintained by Washington County Road Department. Depending on weather and usage, it can be quite washboarded at times. If you take it slow, no matter the road’s condition, we promise you’ll enjoy some gorgeous scenery driving in. We do recommend keeping an eye on regional weather conditions. The outdoors can be rugged in the Zion region and we are experiencing drought conditions. Exceptionally heavy rainfall can cause the roads to be slippery or wash out. If you visit during the winter season the road can be icy and snowy at times.
The closest services for gas, food, ice, laundry, and groceries is La Verkin and Hurricane. We recommend stopping for your shopping needs before driving up to Open Sky.
Please see our Travel Plans page for more information.
Yes, we have built out approximately five miles of hiking trails for our guests, including a route to our property on the mesa above the camps. You never have to leave Open Sky property to enjoy the beauty of the Zion region.

We do not offer early check-in or late checkout at this time because each camp requires the full amount of time for cleaning and preparing for each new guest. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to plan your travel accordingly. Our lobby tent is open from 7 am to 10 pm daily. If you will be arriving later than 9 pm for your check-in, please call or text to let us know so we can make arrangements for you to access your camp.
Due to our remote location, cell phone coverage can be spotty. To accommodate your connectivity, we have Starlink internet services throughout the property and at each camp. We have found that Verizon tends to have the best coverage at Open Sky Zion.
All tents have framed entry doors with padded locks and rear doors are lockable as well. In addition, the Open Sky property has a gated entrance to the resort and only registered guests with the pass-code may enter the property.
If your plans change after your reservation is confirmed, cancelation notice is required 21 days in advance of your arrival date. You will be refunded your deposit, minus a $25 cancelation fee.
If you cancel your reservation 21 days or less prior to arrival date, you are responsible for the entire cost of your reservation and will not receive a refund on any deposit you made. This is why we highly recommend travel insurance. At this time Open Sky does not recommend any specific insurance company or policy.
If you plan to travel to Utah from another country or state, you may want to have travel insurance as a financial safeguard for pandemic, weather, or airline related problems. Travel insurance can provide that safety net to protect your deposits and more. This is especially true if you’re traveling abroad, where your health plan may have limited global coverage. Again, Open Sky does not recommend any specific insurance company or policy.
Our cancelation fee also applies to changes in your arrival/departure date which result in a shorter stay. No refunds are provided for late arrivals or early departures.
PLEASE NO SMOKING or VAPING tobacco or cannabis inside the tents, underneath the tent canvas, or in common areas such as the dining area or around the pond. Additional cleaning fees will apply if in violation. Please extinguish completely before depositing cigarette butts into trash.
Silence is nature’s first language. Please reduce your camp’s noise levels between 9:30pm - 8am so all guests can enjoy the quiet of nature. Avoid the use of car high beams, high lumen flashlights, laser lights, and unnecessary light pollution during the evening hours.
Children aged 12 and younger must be supervised by an adult at all times. Please do not allow children to operate gas fire pits, grills, or indoor gas fireplaces. Children under the age of 16 may not enter the hot tub in the Star Seeker Superior camps without an adult present.
Open Sky has a no pets policy with the exception of Certified Service Animals. It is the responsibility of the pet owner to clean up after your pet and respect other guests. Pets may not be left unattended in tents or cars and owners are responsible for any damage caused by the animal.
If you are a registered guest at Open Sky, you are welcome to invite day guests to join you on the property, in the restaurant, and at your luxury camp. We ask day guests to park in the lobby parking area and to leave the property by 11pm to ensure peacefulness for all guests. For safety reasons, we also require all day guests to check in at the front desk and sign our waiver of liability.
Guests may drive and park their car at their camp in the designated parking area. Extra cars may be parked in the lobby parking area. Please do not block access to roads or drives with your vehicle.
We’ve been known to have a few lizards, snakes, tarantulas, and scorpions at Open Sky Zion. You may also hear the song of coyote at night or spot a gray fox roaming the property. Other wildlife that make this property home include deer, elk, hawks, owls, skunks, raccoons, rabbits and quail. You can easily avoid unwanted encounters by keeping food properly stored and buttoning up your tent when you’re out exploring. Please do not feed or approach wildlife.
Drones are not allowed over Open Sky Zion. This is to ensure privacy for all guests. Also, please be aware that we are bordered by private property, and in the state of Utah, it is illegal to fly a drone over any private property without the owner’s prior consent. We recommend BLM land for drone enthusiasts.
We have a handful of mountain bikes available for guests to ride during their stay at Open Sky Zion. Inquire at the front desk. We request all guests wear a bike helmet and ride with caution as the roads have loose gravel and can be slippery when wet. Bikes may be ridden on Dalton Wash Road however we ask you to not load them on or into your vehicle and leave with them.
There is a grassy area by the pond and waterfall for lounging and playing yard games. Adult guests may swim in the pond during the daylight hours. Children may enter the pond with an adult. Please don’t go in the water after dark. There is no lifeguard on duty so swim at your own risk and supervise children near the pond at all times.
PLEASE NOTE: Guests are financially responsible for missing or damaged room items, which include all furnishings such as pillows, linens, robes, glassware, coffeemaker, welcome basket and its non-consumable content, Bluetooth speaker, lamps, chargers, furniture, fire pit, stove, mini-split, grill, windows, and the tent itself.
